A Fishing Family from Salt Spring Island

Wild BC Seafood, caught with care aboard the Pacific Prowler.

Daughter of a Commercial Fisherman

Becky grew up on her father Chris’s boat, the Pacific Prowler, fishing for tuna and halibut off the BC coast. After meeting Dane—originally from an Alberta cattle ranch—the two joined forces on the water. Dane earned his Captain’s papers, and together they began running the family business while raising their three children in the rhythms of commercial fishing out of Salt Spring Island.

The Pacific Prowler

Today, the Pacific Prowler is a 51-year-old wood troller. We fish for spring salmon off the west coast of Haida Gwaii (Area F), catching fish at the peak of their lifecycle as they return from the deep ocean. At this stage, the fish are rich in Omega oils, protein, and flavour — a quality typically reserved for international fine dining.

We use single barbless hooks and traditional low-impact trolling methods that minimize bycatch. Each fish is caught one by one, immediately dressed (head and guts removed), and flash-frozen at -35°C on the boat.

No middlemen. No mystery. Just traceable, wild, fisherman-direct seafood from our family to yours.

Find us at #15 Merchant Mews, 315 Upper Ganges Rd., Salt Spring Island — Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 3pm.
